What is an Op? It is a specific operation, or action, that has a goal and a time frame. This operation can be engaged by anyone, anywhere, at any time--long or short-term. My goal is broad: to protest against war and indiscriminate use of nuclear forces, and to promote peaceful, harmonious inter-species living upon this planet. You goal may vary. My action is to share information on how to live rightly, caring for each other and the environment. There are multiple ways to do so, and myriad resources offered when following the links below. The folding of 1000 paper cranes is an ancient Japanese tradition with the legend that after one folds the 1000 paper cranes either the granting of a wish or good luck will follow. The story of Sadako involves one Japanese girl who contracts leukemia following radiation exposure from the nuclear bomb the United States dropped on Hiroshima. While in the hospital she is encouraged to fold cranes, and amazing things happen. Learn about the story, how to fold paper cranes, and more... |

Because one can't simultaneously fold a paper crane and wield a weapon.
Start with a square piece of paper. Any paper. Extra points for using scrap paper as Sadako did. From a retangular piece of paper fold one corner over so one edge is on on adjacent to it, crease, then cut the part that's excess off. Traditionally a 3 inch square piece is used, but try 8.5 to 1 inch squares, or even bigger or smller.
Some can learn to fold paper cranes best by watching videos.
Others can learn best by reading.
Now write "peace" on its wing in whatever language you can, then give it away. It will increase your good fortune, aka luck. Paper canes gifted to strangers, or even to those you know, will make you and them feel more connected. This is not a woo-woo claim, but warm, soft fact.

The following files print an original Japanese Crane origami pattern offered exclusively by Op1000 Paper Cranes on 8.5 x 11 inch to 11 x 17 inch paper. Most don't have a printer that can print 11 x 17 inch paper, but most libraries do and price in full color is the same as printing on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. We don't own a printer but use a local library's and the 3.66 inch size we most often fold to give away when in public cost less than one cent each.
The number of cranes that can be printed depends on size. The following range from 11 inch to 2.2 inches square. An easy to fold size is the 3.66 inch size.
